Lucille Werner receives the LUCILLE

In their board meeting in September 2008, the Board of Directors of the Dutch Dance Sport Foundation has decided to give out an award every two years to people or organisations that play or have played a role in the integration of dancers with disabilities in the regular dance scene.

“Promoting the interests of ballroom dancers in the Netherlands, especially dancers with a mental disability and/or a hearing disability or visual disability; and furthermore everything that is connected to this or can help this cause, in the broadest sense. Promoting G class ballroom dancers; the basic assumption is that disability sports are integrated in the regular “big sports world” and that the focus is on everything dancers CAN do”.

The ruling principle is; normal what can be done normally, special what has to be special.

The first LUCILLE will be awarded to LUCILLE WERNER for her enduring effort in realising the goal stated above and her constant battle for integration of these people.

The LUCILLE has been awarded for the first time on Saturday, October 10, 2009 in the National Sport Centre Papendal during the official Dutch Dancing Championship 2009 for people with disabilities.
